Fun little pub with an interesting take on American comfort food. We had run into the co-owner at an event earlier in the week. A group of us were intrigued so we stopped by to check the place out. We were there early in the afternoon, so it was not that crowded, and we did not actually check out the menu, but we had a great time nevertheless. The menu includes the owner's take on burgers, corndogs and things such as mac and cheese and fried prickles.
Bread and Roses hosts bands in the evenings and has a comfortable outdoor beer garden in the back. I hope to have the opportunity to return soon.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Caitlin S.London, Storbritannien13197837 nov. 2014
I went to the Bread & Roses last night for a theatre performance that a friend was putting on, and what a great pub! I live in the area and am very surprised not to have heard of it before. The staff were very friendly, and the prices weren't bad. I found it a bit tricky to find, it is quite far down a road that looks residential, but that just makes it an even better slightly hidden gem, and they have a lot of fringe performances, readings and comedy shows - there were two events on just last night! And a good number of people at the main bar in the pub itself as well.
Room hire is available and worth looking into for any performances you may want to put on, otherwise support local theatre or even just have a nice drink in a fairly laid back, friendly pub. Looks like the main room had just been repainted as well, with wet paint signs up everywhere.
Plus, it's owned by the Battersea and Wandsworth Trades Union Council. I think that's pretty cool!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Craig M.Toronto, Kanada151636809 maj 2012
A huge, varied and unique pub, separated from the main street by a 5 minute walk down a residential road. As such, you tend not to find the Clapham visitors here; they'll stick to the obvious places on the High St, and so you'll be surrounded by locals.
The gardens (front and back) are popular in the warmer months, and chances are you'll find yourself caught up amongst a live music/poetry performance, or art sale, or ale festival. Spacious with a vintage feel and really friendly bar staff.
Well worth the visit.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype-användare (Batter…)London, Storbritannien231059 juni 2008

Fantastic pub, just off Clapham High Street, with a great range of beers, really inventive food, and a very relaxing ambiance.
They also have regular live music nights, screens for sports events (but only in one half - it's easy to avoid if you want to), free wifi, and a really nice secluded garden. In short, and excellent pub!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jennifer D.London, Storbritannien0324 nov. 2014
Headed there for some theatre, got so much more!
I was invited to a performance in their newly opened theatre and thought I'd check it out. Beyond a lovely little pub theatre, that had a fantastic show on that night (!), it's also really great pub.
We had some food which was nice, it's not a 5 star restaurant, it's a pub obviously, but the food is cheap and cooked on location and absolutely decent for what it is. Drinks and theatre also had amazing value for money!
Beyond that the pub's a lovely place with a lovely feel to it and I'll definitely check out other shows at the theatre upstairs.
They also seemed to have a lovely garden in the back, although it was too cold at this season to go and enjoy, so will certainly have to come back in the summer.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype-användare (thirst…)London, Storbritannien083317 nov. 2008
Great neighbourhood pub with non-annoying patrons, good food and nice outdoor spaces out the front and back.
There is a function room upstairs and you can book sections for parties/groups.
We went to a wedding here and it was fantastic, the staff were great and let the grooms run amok.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Raad R.Mas-Cabardès, Frankrike2696414 jan. 2015
This is a great neighbourhood bar, with a lovely outdoor garden. Watched the World Cup finals here, and the folks were great because they accommodated our seating arrangements, provided refreshments and even had food options. A great spot if you're looking to relax and chill on a weekend afternoon or weeknight evening.

I discovered this pub quite late into my time in Clapham but it quickly became a favourite. My boyfriend at the time loved ale, and I love vintage so the pub was a winner on both counts. It's known for it's selection of beers, and holds regular events including Clapham or Bust Burlesque nights. The main pub is at the front, events are held upstairs and there's a conservatory at the back. An outside area is also great in summer.
At weekends, even if there isn't a big event, there is a still a dj downstairs who'll spin rock 'n' roll classics and reggae revival, with space for those who have their dancing shoes on. It's the type of place you might go to if you fancy a bit more than an evening in the pub, but don't fancy going out clubbing.
It's a relaxed but fashionable community pub, more related to Bethnal Green that its Clapham neighbours, and one that'll please any discerning beer drinker.
Food is also available. I have had a Sunday roast there which was OK but not excellent in terms of taste, but brilliantly priced at £6.
It is also interesting that the pub is run by the Battersea and Wandsworth Trades Union council which is a group of dedicated, mostly unpaid volunteers, who support local and international workers' right campaigns, which explains its community feel.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype-användare (amuchm…)London, Storbritannien165221 maj 2009
A lovely pub which is run by a trades union council and affiliated with the Worker's Beer Company, which raises money for workers' rights causes. So by drinking here you are supporting good causes, but it's also really really nice. The only obvious indicators of its left-wing affiliation are a couple of murals. Open and bright interior with a big beer garden out back - looks like they are going to start BBQs soon. Also a good comedy night, and a wide variety of other nights going on (burlesque, wargaming) which I haven't tried yet. I like how they stick tasting notes on the beer taps, so you can make an informed choice.
