It is clearly no secret that I find French food le delicious.

But one secret you might not know is that Villandry Kitchen serves up the most stunning, the most slurp-worthy, the most cheesy-bready-French onion soupy amazingness that you will ever find in a bowl. I don't care what country you live in or what language you speak, this was le perfect.

I can't even remember the other dishes we ordered, but I think broccoli and salmon were involved? Details, details. It's that gorgeous French Onion soup that will bring me back again, and again, and again...

Nice enough - food was cooked well and wasn't hugely expensive (Ribeye steak at around £15 and not overdone).

Found it a little chilly but otherwise nice enough. Probably more of a lunch place than a dinner one though - the breakfast section on the menu looked quite nice as well.

I went to Villandry with an open mind about French cuisine and I can honestly say I was not disappointed! I ordered for starters a bread selection with olives - the bread was a bit hard for my liking and the olives were too salty (Disappointing!) I took it on the chin and continued with the main, which might I say was fabulous! For the main, I ordered a seafood linguine which consisted of clams, mussels, prawns, and shrimp doused in a gorgeous tomato based sauce topped with parmesan! The linguine had just the right amount of flavour and after every mouthful I could not help but say, "this is so good". To compliment the seafood linguine, I opted for a large glass of white Pinot Grigio. For dessert, I had a delicious hot chocolate pot with vanilla pod ice-cream.

Don't get me wrong, i'm sure this all sounds mouthwatering but to be honest, there just isn't enough choice on the menu. As a frequent visitor of Villandry it would be nice to try something a little more exotic but unfortunately its just a few pasta dishes and pizza. Apart from that, the food is wonderful, as you walk in there aroma of delicious food is overpowering, but for everyones benefit, please give us a more on the menu.

On the decor front, the seating is intimate and spacious. There are an array of vegetables in jars, wine bottles stuck to the walls, and you can't help but look at all the garlic and peppers hanging from the celling.

In all, a great french experience!

I have this problem wherein I frequently order (with the best intentions, of course) the worst thing possible from a restaurant's menu. I mean, I have been known to go to a Thai restaurant otherwise known for its delicious food and order what amounts to a plate of warm beansprouts. Just beansprouts. It's times like these when I feel I am not a particularly good candidate for restaurant criticism.

      However, criticise I must.

I went to Villandry Kitchen and ordered smoked salmon with a celeriac remoulade and a bread basket.

It sounded like a good idea at the time.

But I soon had some serious food envy as I gazed around the restaurant at other diners' tables, even at my dining companion's plates!

The smoked salmon was, well, smoked salmon. Nothing about it was special. The celeriac remoulade was pretty tasty, laced with zingy capers, but it was more like celeriac dressed in remoulade (ie, coleslaw) than a 'celeriac remoulade'. Pedantic though it may be, I still must contest (because I'm into pedantry, of course). You see, when I read the menu, I envisioned myself spreading the delicious remoulade atop my fresh smoked salmon and consuming the complementary items under the divine glow of French gastronomy. But it was not so. Instead, I cumbersomely heaped some fish into my mouth whilst trying to follow it (ungracefully) with a fork full of roughly chopped celeriac. Furthermore, the bread in my bread basket was merely okay, and the butter that accompanied it was hard, making spreading it impossible.

So there you go. Two stars for my food on the day. One discretionary star given to compensate for my bad menu-decision-making history (and my twatish inclination towards snarky Yelp-review pedantry).

Villandry has recently changed their name to "french kitchen" and are expanding. I was worried that the food would not be as good since they just recently changed over. But not to worry, the high standard has been maintained.

A friend and I each got 3 courses and split them so that we got to try a large sample.
For appetizers we had a mushrooms in an onion cream sauce over toast, which was rich and delicious. We could only handle a couple bites each because we didn't want to be full for the coming courses.
The second appetizer was a duck liver parfait. It came with a red onion marmalade to accompany it atop baguette. The combination of the rich pate and the sweet onion marmalade made the dish moorish, I would happily go to get this after a day at work sharing a glass of wine.

For the main course we had the only chicken dish on the main course section of the menu. The chicken was cooked to perfects in a tomato sweet pepper sauce, it was accompanied by rice. It was good, but I wouldn't rush there to have it again.
The other dish we had was the lamb, the lamb was cooked to perfection, they warned that they cooked it rare, but it was not rare, it was just not dried out as some restaurant tend to overcook. It was accompanied by a turnip puree that looked like mashed potato but was light and fluffy and left my friend and I fighting over the last bite.

For pudding we had 'pot a chocolate' which is quiet literally a small pot of densely packed rich chocolate. I would have preferred this with some raspberries or strawberries. If you love love love chocolate and can handle a lot of richness this is the dessert for you. The second dessert we had I absolutely pigged out on. It is n't something that I would typically be inclined to order myself. It was the blood orange, contreau, and rhubarb syllabub. Five stars, as good as it gets amazing.

The french kitchen has that warm french kitchen rustic chique look to it. I would recommend it for a semi-casual date or as a good place to go with friends or work colleagues.

Good selection at reasonable price; the food was good and healthy.

I am not sure what it is but it didn't quite work for me. Maybe it's the location which is unremarkable, or the décor which tries to be a couple of things at the same time...

I would take people from or for work over lunch to this place.

Great range of reasonably priced, fabulous food (breakfast, salads, pizzas, main courses, desserts)...

BUT service was very slow. We had gone for a late lunch, by which time the place was emptying out. It was difficult (and a little awkward) to summon attention. Hopefully, just teething problems in these early days.

I like French bistros especially ones where you can buy jams and breads and real lemonade, with wooden floors and nice wine. So I liked Villandry Kitchen as soon as I walked in - it reminded me of places like Pain Quotidien. It's light and airy inside with huge windows and a good noisy atmosphere during weekday lunch it had a lovely mix of City boys, students, groups of friends and families. The service was friendly and the wine lovely.

Mi madre had a goat's cheese salad. Which was a bit meh. And that's not very good because if there's one thing the French do well its salad dripping with dressing and bacon and gizzards and cheese and sausage and lots of other things that make it far more interesting (and fattening) than a normal British salad and don't make you feel like you're denying yourself. Best goat's cheese salad in the world = at Fabian O'Farrells on Place de Lux, Brussels. Please try harder Villandry.

But then I ceased to care about anything else because I ordered their macaroni cheese with bacon and dressed green leaves. And it rocked - beautifully cheesily delicious and probably about a trillion calories of yum. Like many of the world's retro delights, mac n' cheese is now cool again there are entire blogs devoted to it, blogs about mac and cheese recipes, New York Times articles on it. Us Brits are a little bit behind but I truly enjoyed my first experience of posh M&C. Who'd have thought my favourite school dinner would become so fashionable?

Our mains, plus a glass of wine each and coffee came to £32 so £16 each great value.

I like this place--it is a good place to have a breakfast meeting. Quiet, sophisticated. However I ordered the eggs and salmon and OOPS! they forgot to put the salmon on. Major oversight from the kitchen AND the waiter (pretty obvious if the salmon isn't there). It was a business meeting, so I just let it slide. The eggs were good and creamy (did they actually add cream to the eggs I wonder?) but it was a bit pricey. Good coffee though!

Great breakfast and brunch menu. Try their English breakfast set -- the food quality is pretty good!
